The Last Big Question: Will Health Care Reform Be Paid For By The Rich or the Middle Class?

Monday, January 11, 2010

There’s only one big remaining issue on health care reform: how to pay for it. The House wants a 5.4 percent surtax on couples earning at least $1 million in annual income. The Senate wants a 40 percent excise tax on employer-provided “Cadillac plans.” The Senate will win on this unless the public discovers that a large portion of the so-called Cadillacs are really middle-class Chevys, expensive not because they deliver more benefits but because they have higher costs...... Damn it's Cold!

Earlier this summer I remarked to Ms. Jimmer that I thought,we were having a mild hurricane season because the Gulf Stream had cooled and wasn’t allowing the killer storms to propagate. I went on to say that I thought that if that theory held that we would be in for a brutal Winter.

She just nodded in that way that she does that lets me know that she was totally disinterested in in my line of reasoning and that I should shut up so that she can continue watching  “What Not to Wear".  So I did. And she did.

Vindication!

We all seem to be struggling a really brutal Winter. Over the last week Orlando has had a memorable string of sub-freezing nights and down right cold days. Now there is a wet cold front coming our way that holds the potential for snow flurries over the next couple days. Not that there hasn’t been really cold weather here in the past. I personally remember 4 or 5 snow events here in my life and have one hell of a story to tell about the 1989 Christmas Freeze that singlehandedly destroyed the Central and North Florida citrus industry.

and here (This one gets kinda technical)

For balance I stumbled across this possible bit of nonsense.

Or is it?
